Beyond the Quantum

Beyond the Quantum by Dr Manjir Samanta-Laughton MBBS (MD in USA)

Quantum: the word seems ubiquitous. It is on everything from batteries to dishwasher tablets. Increasingly it is a word used to explain the mechanisms behind holistic therapies. Quantum Physics, Quantum theory and Quantum Electrodynamics are names for some of the most successful physics theories of the twentieth century. We use the consequences of these discoveries in our electronic devices and more.

But it was the major philosophical coup of quantum theory that meant it has become the favourite buzzword of the holistic movement. Quantum physics broke down the barriers of what we thought was real and solid and showed that reality is not quite as straightforward as we once believed. We thought we lived in a clockwork, mechanical universe, but quantum physics showed that our perceptions and our consciousness could affect reality and this was a total revolution.

It is no wonder that the consequences of quantum theory are so popular with the new scientific thinking utilised in holistic fields. However, we are coming up to one hundred years from the heady days of Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schrödinger and others when they made their exciting theories and won their Nobel prizes. It is also almost a century after the famous incredulity of Albert Einstein that God could possibly play dice with the universe.

Where are the current revolutionary theories? Have science really not advanced in the last century to further our knowledge of reality? Well this is a complex question. It seems as if we have made many strides in science as we use our new smartphones which get smaller and cleverer. But this increase in technology does not necessarily represent advancement in our world view. With academic science now being squeezed further into little boxes searching for funding, it is less likely that anybody will rock the boat. In fact, when people do, the scientific establishments act like the church of old and excommunicate any of the proponents of radical thinking.

So true exploration of our world now has to advance outside of the scientific establishments. It is in the rebel ranks that a new paradigm is rising up. This new vision of the universe places consciousness firmly at the centre of an ever evolving universe. I am delighted to join the IBA Members conference in Malta later this year. During my presentation I will be describing how, when we place consciousness at the heart of the universe we could finally unite the worlds of the very small, such as atoms and quarks with the very large such as galaxies and stars in one unified, elegant theory that both explains observable data in a simple manner and makes predictions about the universe that have repeatedly been shown to be true.

At the start of the 21st century it is time to go beyond the Quantum into new theories for our era, uniting consciousness with every single process of the universe, demonstrating with evidence and data that what is inside us is the same as what is without.
