BodyTalk Blooms in Brunei

Jan 26, 2022

By Julia Morel

I have been living with my family in Brunei Darussalam for the last ten years and working in a medical clinic. I trained in the U.K. as a registered Osteopath. I am also now a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner.

My BodyTalk journey began in Singapore in 2019. I was exploring my own natural health solutions when I discovered BodyTalk. The first session I received and the areas of the body-mind that came up as a priority resonated with me so much that I knew I needed to learn more. A few weeks later, I flew back to Singapore for my first BodyTalk Fundamentals class and traveled the following weekend to Kuala Lumpur to learn MindScape.

In my work as an experienced Osteopath, I understand the body's subtle expressions of its health potential. Because of this, I was excited by the shifts and huge possibilities that BodyTalk offered. I saw how it provided me with a roadmap to explore and access unlimited aspects of the body-mind complex.

At the start of 2020 and the outbreak of COVID-19, I took the BodyTalk Access class. I knew that it offered tools for individuals to use in their homes and with families and friends. I knew how powerful it would be in supporting health during such uncertain times. I knew that BodyTalk Access needed to get into the hands of as many people as possible.

From that moment on, I started sharing information about BodyTalk Access with some of my clients and discussing its potential as a preventative and essential wellbeing technique and how it could be used as a form of natural healthcare. I pointed many of my clients and peers in the right direction to learn this technique for themselves. Thanks to safe and easy online learning through the International BodyTalk Association, we now have 54 people in Brunei who have learned the powerful series of five techniques and are now BodyTalk Access Technicians. This includes many healthcare professionals, adults, and students, using it for themselves, in the workplace, and supporting the health of family members and friends of all ages, reaching further out into the community.

While BodyTalk Access was going strong, I needed to shift my focus and energy. It was time to expand my studies and become a certified BodyTalk practitioner. This path took me on a massive personal journey of learning and unlearning. It also meant that more and more people were becoming aware of BodyTalk as I performed sessions for my certification. As more people received BodyTalk and resonated with the work much like I did, more people wanted to learn how to do BodyTalk themselves. With great satisfaction, I can report that we now have ten people who are onto their BodyTalk Fundamentals training. Of those, we have just had our first two Certified BodyTalk Practitioners come through training, and others are moving toward their certification exam with further classes and study groups. We also have seven people who have started to explore other courses available through the International BodyTalk Association as awareness is opening to this new way of learning and healing.

We are starting to grow our roots as a community. As we do so, we are making sure there is good communication and support for sharing and learning as we develop and represent BodyTalk here in Brunei.

BodyTalk Fundamentals students gather in Brunei for an in-person informal study session after having done most of their training and practice sessions online.

It isn't just the human community in Brunei that is benefitting from this work. I was thrilled when BodyTalk for Animals came back online. I was very interested in understanding how to work with animals this way and as an addition to my training as an Equine and Canine Osteopath. In much the same way that BodyTalk Access grew, we now have two people who work with animals who have taken the BodyTalk Access for Animals training and can put their skills to good use.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the dedicated instructors and practitioners who have encouraged, supported and taught me along the way and who have listened and inspired me and answered my many, many questions. And also to my clients for their open-mindedness to try new ways of healing. I am truly grateful.

The BodyTalk System of healthcare can now be carried forward here in Brunei as those who have learned are sharing the practice for people to experience their own potential for health. The next step in my learning is to train as a BodyTalk Access instructor so that it can be further experienced and felt across the community. One day, I hope that BodyTalk Access can also be brought as outreach training into more rural communities.
