By Taryn Edge

Taryn Edge recently wrote to us sharing her experience in using the Client Health and Wellbeing form, not only in her own practice, but also in mentoring new BodyTalk Practitioners. I know I would have loved to have this insight when I was setting up my BodyTalk practice and I think it's a great reminder as Keeping BodyTalk Professionalcontinues with John and Kerry next week. Read on and ENJOY!

Key Tools to Strengthen Your BodyTalk Practice: Part 1

As part of our Instructor's Mentoring Process with our students who are Practitioners-in-Training, I have regular telephone calls to discuss their experiences as they progress through their five pre-requisite CBP sessions.  Here, I encourage students to try and choose 4 different CBPs to receive sessions from, so they are able to learn the various ways that CBPs run their practices (similar to the concept of receiving in-house internship training).

During the process, I encourage them to make the following observations:

  1. What was the booking experience like?
  2. Did the CBP send you a reminder message of your appointment and timeous directions?
  3. What was the look and feel of the clinic?
  4. Did the clinic have good signage outside?
  5. Were there posters or certificates on the walls?
  6. How well did you resonate with the CBP?
  7. Did they ask you to complete a health and wellness form? How was this process for you?
  8. Did they have a cancellation policy?
  9. Did they indicate a second follow up date?
  10. What realizations did they have during or after the session?  Were there any trigger points or self-growth areas that came up in terms of fears, beliefs etc. that they can consciously become aware of through various processes in their day-to-day life by utilizing mirroring concept and over reactions?
  11. What was the BodyTalk introduction talk like? Always ask your CBP to treat you as though you know nothing of BodyTalk, so that you can learn various ways of introducing BodyTalk to your clients.
  12. Did the CBP share the links with you or were they quiet?
  13. How did that experience make you feel compared to their previous experience?
  14. Which would they prefer to implement in their practices and which would they not implement or possibly did not enjoy?

Then I encourage the student to choose the CBP who completed a thorough wellness form with them and follow up with them as part of their 5th pre-requisite session.  This way they are able to observe how to monitor a client's progress – by using the health and wellness intake form!

When clients arrive at your clinic, they usually know why they are there.  You have no idea, how many either say they didn't realize how healthy, or unhealthy, they were.  Your client may be coming into your clinic to heal their back pain, and that is their focus.  However, because they complete the intake form, you are able to track their progress on their sinus issues, their numbness in their left toe, their frequent heart palpitations, as well as their period pain they thought they just had to live with!!

We see it often, when using the intake forms, how clients forget they even had headaches to start with when you ask for feedback.  It's so funny, sometimes you actually have to show it in their own handwriting!  So.... What is the key to having a successful practice?  Happy clients!  Results!  If you don't have a thorough health assessment or baseline form from which to start tracking progress, it makes total sense that you will not be able to monitor the changes successfully, let alone make the client aware of what has shifted.

So when you hand your intake form to your client, you say to them, "Please complete this 4-page health and wellness form, as we will be using it to monitor your progress with follow up sessions."  This immediately gives the client the confidence that they can expect progress, and they are suddenly more on board and willing to complete the form, understanding the purpose.

We all know you can do sessions without "knowing" anything. I will never forget John Veltheim saying that half the time the client gives you the queues on what's going to come up in the session, based on what they tell you.  So listen.  We as CBPs have learned to be great listeners, and 'non-judgers', always respecting the intricate amazing feedback mechanism from innate wisdom and our intuition from universal higher consciousness.

Stay tuned for the next installment where we delve into 'Explaining BodyTalk'.

Much love,
