The Path to PaRama Practitioner

Jul 01, 2022

By IBA Office

Since its inception, John Veltheim has made it clear that the PaRama BodyTalk course is the highest level of BodyTalk training. It is a course that more fully embraces the dynamical systems model introduced in BodyTalk Fundamentals and takes the philosophy of healing and awareness far beyond the physical plane of life. John has long wanted an official designation for those who have committed themselves to the study of PaRama. We have a pathway to becoming a certified PaRama Practitioner, or PaRama CBP--the highest certification for a BodyTalker. We hope this notice answers all your questions, but please don't hesitate to contact us if you want to know more.

Can I still purchase the PaRama BodyTalk course as a first-timer or as a monitor?

Yes. For new students who meet the prerequisites, the PaRama course is available all together or in individual segments on PaRama Campus. For monitors, you must purchase the course through the IBA website, and within 15 minutes, it will sync to PaRama Campus for you to access. You need to ensure that you have a PaRama Campus account (free) that was set up linked to your IBA user account. Note that the PaRama Campus free account gives you one year of unlimited access to the PaRama course segments (and all other purchased courses). For unlimited viewing after a year, you must have a PaRama Campus subscription.

PaRama BodyTalk Prerequisites: IBA Membership and must have completed any two of the Advanced Modules (Principles of Consciousness, Bio-Dynamics, Macrocosmic BodyMind, or Matrix Dynamics).

What are PaRama Session Intensives as opposed to the PaRama Practical course?

PaRama Instructors now have the option to schedule PaRama Session Intensives. These are like the Session Intensives offered by John and Senior Instructors. The PaRama Session Intensives focus exclusively on PaRama sessions. Students must have taken up through PaRama Segment 3 as a prerequisite or the original PaRama Unit 1. These provide an opportunity to observe and experience a PaRama BodyTalk session. Alternatively, the PaRama Practicals focus on integrating the understandings from all 8 of the PaRama BodyTalk Segments, diving deeper into specific aspects of the PaRama Procedure chart and philosophy, and beginning to practice and apply the understandings in a group setting, whether online or in-person. The PaRama Practical is a requirement for PaRama CBP certification, while the session intensive is not.

How do I certify to become a PaRama CBP?

Thus far, we have allowed students who completed the original PaRama Unit 1, PaRama Unit 2 and the PaRama Practical to call themselves PaRama BP, ParBP, or PaRama Practitioner on the IBA website and in their personal marketing. We will not take away this label or distinction. However, it is not an official designation as there was no exam or certification process to ensure that students fully understood PaRama philosophy and knew how to apply PaRama principles in sessions. Moving forward, there will be a clear pathway toward becoming a Certified PaRama BodyTalk Practitioner or PaRama CBP. We anticipate updating the Practitioner search directory to have new search classifications, including CBP-A (for animal practitioners) and PaRama CBP. Those who are currently a PaRama BP would not appear as PaRama CBPs until certification has been achieved.

In the coming year, we will also ensure that there is a clear pathway on the IBA website that shows the progression of development as a BodyTalk practitioner from CBP to AdvCBP to PaRama CBP, with CBP-A as an additional option. This is in line with Dr. John Veltheim's vision and desire that PaRama always be the highest level of distinction and recognition for a BodyTalk practitioner.

The prerequisites to take the PaRama Exam will be in line with what students have come to expect from both the CBP and AdvCBP certification processes. The AdvCBP certification will be a prerequisite to become a PaRama CBP, as will membership and graduation from a PaRama Practical course. Additionally, students will have to submit PaRama session notes (50), PaRama session case studies (5), pass the exam, pay a fee to the examining instructor (approximately 250 USD), and pay an IBA processing fee (50 USD).

Those who meet the three criteria below on the date of this announcement will be able to proceed directly to taking the PaRama Exam, bypassing the other requirements for PaRama CBP certification. This is called "challenging the exam." It is a similar process John and the IBA put in place when we first transitioned to the AdvCBP certification:

1. You must already hold the PaRama BP, ParBP or PaRama Practitioner label.
2. You must have monitored all 8 of the most recent PaRama BodyTalk segments.
3. You must already be an AdvCBP.

For these students, they will be able to submit their exams online directly to the IBA and pay a $100 fee for both processing and review by the IBA. If they do not pass the exam, they will have to adhere to the full requirements of submitting session notes, case studies, and taking the exam with an examining Instructor if they wish to sit the exam again. Students who meet this requirement will only have one (1) year from the date of the exam being released to challenge the exam. If they do not take the exam within that time, they will have to follow the standard process.

The exam will not be available to "challenge" immediately, so those in a position to challenge will have ample time to prepare. In the meantime, the PaRama Practical Instructors will be able to administer the exams to new students who meet the requirements. For students taking the exam either with an Instructor or challenging it online, the exam will be administered similarly to the way a Master's Thesis is written under the support of a faculty advisor. It is predominantly essay format and will require the student's clear demonstration of mastery of the material. The examining Instructors are there to review the student's responses and determine if students need to be guided in the right direction and re-do any of their responses. Only if it is clear that the student cannot be guided to submit a sufficient exam will they "fail" the exam and be required to wait six (6) months until they can re-take it. This is the same process that will be followed for those who challenge the exam.

Will the updated PaRama BodyTalk be available in other languages soon?

We do not currently have the resources to translate the updated PaRama, but it will be on our list of possible projects in 2021 and beyond, as we assess priorities based on the biggest impact and influence to the largest number of Members and students. Currently, the original German PaRama Unit 1 and PaRama Unit 2 are still available from the German IBA store. The price has been lowered to align better with the updated English course. Students who take both Unit 1 and 2 in German will still be getting a high-quality course where nearly all the information is still highly relevant.
