From John's Desk

By John Veltheim

Hello to you all,

It's been a long time since I last wrote. I know there are many new members and CBPs in the last few years who haven't heard from me as much as Members used to. During my travels, I loved meeting all the new students and BodyTalkers, but since 2018 I haven't traveled much. To give you some context, before that, I spent nearly 25 years traveling 8 to 10 months out of the year, lecturing in Reiki, MindScape and BodyTalk. I loved every minute, but my body has been enjoying more rest now. It took a while to get used to not traveling as much and not meeting all the new faces in the system, but this past year I've settled into my routine and my quieter pace of life, and I feel very happy.

As some of you know, I first went into practice in 1973. Since then, I've practiced and taught curriculum in various collegiate settings in chiropractic, acupuncture, osteopathy, applied kinesiology, naturopathy, and energy medicine. In the past 25 years, however, my total focus was on developing the BodyTalk System and most of the IBA courses. Throughout this time, I made many breakthroughs in the understanding of healthcare and in developing clinical applications to bring about effective changes in clients.

At this stage, my life's work has brought me back to where I started and to what I've always thoroughly enjoyed--applying my breakthroughs and discoveries in clinical practice. Three days a week, I see new and returning clients. Many of them are very sick, some in hospital with COVID-19, a lot with cancerous conditions, and others with mystery illnesses their doctors can't figure out. Sometimes, I also treat more minor issues, or people book with me to have a pleasant visit and a general session. I always recommend people go to a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner before they come to see me and that they continue to get regular sessions after they see me.

I want to remind you that regular sessions can sometimes be the difference between lasting and temporary results. While we don't fully understand why the body's innate wisdom doesn't always permanently maintain changes in health, we know that stress and finding oneself in the same challenging environment can make it difficult for the body to shift more permanently for lasting health. I remember a patient who came to me early on when I was developing BodyTalk. He was referred by a friend because his doctor had given him just a couple of months to live. After I treated him, he felt good, but I told him he'd need to get regular treatments with me if he wanted to continue to live. This was, of course, an extreme situation because the man was destined to die from his illness, and the best I could do was delay the process. He came to me twice a month for two years and then decided he was ready to die. He told me he'd gotten his affairs in order and was going to stop coming for BodyTalk. In his situation, BodyTalk was the difference between death or getting to enjoy life a little longer. But it's an excellent example of how much regular BodyTalk sessions can do for you when you find yourself a good practitioner.

At this point in my career, I am not currently developing any new courses. Some of you have been asking, and many of you still send me fascinating research and discoveries for me to take on, but it's no longer a compelling drive for me. I strongly feel that my developments over a quarter of a century have created a solid legacy. Once you learn BodyTalk, you should never stop researching and educating yourself. The BodyTalk protocol and the IBA's course library will provide a strong foundation for applying any new information you learn, as well as for applying new scientific breakthroughs for many more years to come. If you have combined your BodyTalk training with the other two essential courses I developed, MindScape and FreeFall, and Esther's BreakThrough, you will have tools to support you for the rest of your life.

In addition to doing sessions, I have been supporting the staff and the global matrix in reviewing new Instructor applicants. We have had more new Access Trainers, CBIs, and advanced Instructors training in the last three years than we did in the whole five years prior. It's really encouraging to see this growth and see people developing themselves within the IBA and seeing so many new people stepping into Instructor roles.

We're also looking to expand our PaRama Campus library, both with some of the courses or small events I've taught in the past and up-and-coming new courses with other Instructors. If you have a course that you've developed or are thinking of creating, we are always interested in hearing ideas. The staff can help you with the application forms and the details.

Lastly, I want to remind everyone of the importance of continuing to develop yourselves as practitioners. For those who don't actively practice, there are many other ways to deepen the work, namely through the advanced PaRama course and the LifeScience courses (MindScape, BreakThrough and FreeFall). For practitioners, there are still valuable resources I've made sure have stayed available to Members these many years. All practitioners should watch the Practice Building videos I recorded a number of years ago.
[These are available to Standard and Practitioner Members on the Member Downloads page.] The information in them is still applicable today, and it considers the many more subtle and energetic aspects of running a successful clinic. Ongoing training in MindScape--including the special advanced courses developed by our Instructors--helps strengthen and refine intuition. I've seen students who monitor the MindScape courses (and then hold study groups to practice the exercises) develop their intuition to a far greater degree than those who don't. BreakThrough work is also extremely important. Students and practitioners who've made an ongoing study of BreakThrough and who regularly receive BreakThrough sessions or attend study groups end up having the most comprehensive understanding of BodyTalk. They make some of the best neutral observers when it comes to sessions. Esther has been offering BreakThrough Intensives and Satsangs almost weekly for well over a year. I recommend taking advantage of these while they're available.

I also recommend that you become more involved in your local BodyTalk matrix. If there aren't others in your community, giving public talks can be an excellent way to attract clients and new people who might become students. Coordinating local BodyTalk Access courses is another way to grow interest in your community and build a matrix. If there aren't enough people in your area to form study groups or session trades, you can start a group that meets regularly online. In-person get-togethers are still important when they can happen. They build a different energy, anchoring the work more strongly in a physical location. Also, symbolic activities, like planting a tree in your community or at your clinic to represent BodyTalk, can support a matrix in rooting and growing.

These letters from me don't happen very often, but I consider them important for students, members, practitioners, and instructors of all levels. I want to express my gratitude and an extra big thank you to the Instructors and Practitioners who have been with me since the late 1990s and early 2000s. And also, thank you to the rest of you who've been around a while or are brand new. You all have something to contribute. I hope to make these letters a more regular occurrence, as these communications also strengthen the global BodyTalk matrix.

I wish everyone a happy and successful 2022.

Love,
John
