Tapping Into Adaptability

What is Health? Traditional Chinese Medicine tells us that health is the capacity of an organism to adapt to challenge. From this perspective, health is not the absence of conflict but rather the ability to grow, to learn, and to overcome the challenges that we meet on our journey. Dis-ease and stress, therefore, are an indication of the inability to adapt, an attachment to old beliefs, habits, and ways of being.

Adaptability begins in the mind with the capacity to consider any challenge from a variety of perspectives. As we emerge from a two-year period of isolation and restriction that has presented constant challenges to our individual and collective psyche, emotional state, and immunity, we may discover that we feel challenged to open our minds and hearts once again.

Stress levels soared and continue to rise due to the uncertainties of health, war, and the economy. The World Health Organization published a recent study stating that 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress, 77 percent report stress that affects their physical health, and 73 percent indicate experiencing stress that impacts their mental health.

However, the global pandemic also gifted us with new opportunities as a result of the need to adapt. From crisis comes invention. Many of us were forced to adjust how we work, how we learn, and how we stay connected to one another. We were forced to think outside the box and to transcend whatever beliefs or habits prevented us from considering these possibilities in the past.

~Dolly Parton

Many of us resisted the notion of working or learning remotely until it was the only available option. Many clients would never have considered receiving sessions remotely until distance sessions represented an ideal way to receive support and care for their health, even in isolation. Many of those same clients now prefer to receive their sessions from the comfort of their own homes, students see the benefit of accessing education without the expense of travel and time away from family or work, and instructors can reach a global audience.

The capacity to tap into that adaptability, creativity and open-mindedness is the same capacity that drives health and healing on all levels. BodyTalk can help us tap into our potential for a whole new level of mental, emotional, and physical health.
