Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
Ethics is about making the best possible decisions concerning people, resources and the environment. Ethical choices diminish risk, advance positive results, increase trust, determine long term success and build reputations. Leadership is absolutely dependent on ethical choices. IBA members have determined that honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness are the values that drive ethical conduct for the BodyTalk profession. IBA's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct applies those values to the real-life practice of BodyTalk, where the best outcome is the most ethical one. All IBA members, volunteers, certification holders and certification applicants must comply with the Code.
Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
As practitioners of BodyTalk, we are committed to doing what is right and honorable. Our ethics code:
- Describes expectations that we have of ourselves and our fellow practitioners.
- Articulates ideals to which we aspire and behaviors that are mandatory.
- Aims to instill confidence in the profession and help individuals become better practitioners.
Ethical Decision Making Framework
The Ethical Decision-Making Framework is a practical resource to guide you toward ethical choices and accountability. It will be helpful if you are faced with an ethical dilemma.
- Use the Framework to stimulate your critical thinking throughout the ethical decision-making process.
- Follow its sequence of questions and sub-questions from recognition of the issue through decision and action. The answers are your responsibility.
- You can also use the Framework reflectively at the end of a decision-making process to see if the important steps were taken and the important considerations made.
