Time for self-improvement? ...Or something different?

Self-care is often touted at the start of a new year, with a focus on personal growth and self-improvement; think New Year's resolutions. However, among all the self-betterment options out there, BreakThrough stands out with a somewhat unique and unconventional approach.

What does that mean?!?

Self-improvement implies "something about me needs fixing." BreakThrough investigates such notions, asking, "Is there really something lacking about you?!"

Instead of setting unrealistic, self-critical goals, BreakThrough begins with honestly assessing our lives, acknowledging "Some things in life suck!" and "There are things about myself I can't stand!" It's about recognizing our direct experiences, not our stories about them.

In BreakThrough, we discard presumptions like "I need to improve!" and rely solely on direct experience by asking questions. Through simple, childlike inquiry, we focus on deconstructing black-and-white thinking. Curiosity guides us, and self-forgiveness anchors us. This is BreakThrough--a way back home.

So, what is BreakThrough is all about?

Q. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN BREAKTHROUGH?

In BreakThrough, we are searching for clues--clues that led up to a particular stressful event and your unique experience of it.

Q. SO, ARE YOU TRYING TO SOLVE SOMETHING?

We are trying to solve a mystery. The mystery is: Why do we experience distress both during and long after certain events happen.

Q. WILL KNOWING WHY I HURT STOP THE HURT?

When practicing BreakThrough, each exploration reveals unexpected insights. "Reasoning backwards" as Sherlock Holmes often puts it is key. Reasoning forwards uses known facts to reach conclusions. As Sherlock says, "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact." Reasoning backwards uncovers surprising, yet sensible clues.

The beauty of reasoning backwards is that it identifies the true cause of our distress, often unrelated to the triggering event. While this clarity may not stop the hurt immediately, it brings peace over time.

Q. IS BREAKTHROUGH DIFFICULT TO LEARN?

The hardest part of BreakThrough is staying curious and avoiding premature conclusions. Even a basic understanding, paired with genuine curiosity, makes BreakThrough effective. In BreakThrough 1, you'll embark on a journey, learning a new way to help yourself.

Q. IS BREAKTHROUGH AN ONGOING PRACTICE THEN?

If you enjoy BreakThrough 1, you'll likely want to dive deeper and continue practicing. Since life is an ongoing journey, it makes sense to find supportive and enjoyable ways to help ourselves.

Q. HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO BODYTALK OR MINDSCAPE?

In BodyTalk sessions, we avoid jumping to conclusions and making assumptions. Guided by curiosity, we let our inner detective guide our yes-no questions. As we sink into the zone, we become very curious. The insights often surprise both us and our clients.

MindScape works best when approached with curiosity, exploring in non-linear ways. By reasoning backwards and being open-minded, we gain new perspectives.

All IBA modalities aim to help us use our minds more creatively and holistically, transforming our experience of life.

"When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." -- Sherlock Holmes
