Finding Normal

"Rise up this mornin'. Smiled with the rising sun. Three little birds pitched by my doorstep singin' sweet songs of melodies pure and true sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou" ... Singin', "Don't worry about a thing. 'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
--Bob Marley,

"Normal" is a surprisingly potent word when you think about it. Either we abhor it and long for something special, different and unique. I mean, who wants to be "normal," right? Or, in times like today, full of far more questions, confusion and uncertainty than we are perhaps used to, we long for a return to something more "normal."

But "normal" is never as far off as we think. Even if we are going through something difficult, moments of normal still abound. From the singing of birds to the noise of the garbage truck. From the sunlight pouring in the room with a cat soaking up its rays. To the sound of the dishwasher, the smell of wet dog, or the sight of yourself in the mirror brushing your teeth. Or your TV, which is always ready to transport you into another world, another story. Even death itself is normal, just like birth. Normal brings with it a sense of steadiness, consistency, reliability, security. Normal is never not there.

However, when we are preoccupied with all that seems not normal or what could be unnormal tomorrow, we lose our footing. We thrust ourselves into territory that feels shockingly unfamiliar, even when familiar things might still be all around us.

Simply doing things that are part of our normal routine with more attention and acknowledging all the "normal" things around us can establish a sense of steadiness and security. If, however, we are finding it difficult to settle into our inner sense of normal, BodyTalk and BreakThrough can help. We encourage you to book a session if you need support finding normal again or simply as excellent preventative care.
