End of Year Message

"A truly stable system expects the unexpected, is prepared to be disrupted, waits to be transformed."
– Tom Robbins

Dearest Members,

Before this year gives its last Hurrah, there is so much to thank you all for. Your inpouring of beautiful letters and reminiscences in the wake of John's death has meant the world. So many of your letters began with "I wouldn't be here without John." "John saved my life." I forwarded many of them to John's family in Australia, and please know that reading them has felt so healing for them too.

And thank you, all of you who so generously donated to IBF in John's honor. We so appreciate your heartfelt support of the BodyTalk Outreach programs.

No doubt many of you have also suffered more personal loss of loved ones this past year. As we prepare to step into a very different future, without those who once played such a significant role in our lives, life can feel rather strange. At the same time, we are now more vividly aware than ever of life's fleetingness and fragility, and this new awareness is, surely, inspiring. In your letters, I have felt this inspiration time and again in your pledges of commitment to spreading the work.

In his beautiful Memorial to John (see honoringjohn.com), Tim Hall wrote: John wouldn't be too concerned about being remembered for what he did. What he wants to know now is: What are You going to do?

And in those words, Tim so clearly echoes the way John would have wanted us to move forward, spreading the work; namely, by not taking things personally. This really is the only way, for wherever we take things personally, there we encounter limitations.

And so, in the spirit of this season of celebration, ritual, transition, family, and introspection, let us commit as selflessly as possible to working together moving forward ... as was once our vision. Let us put all our enthusiasm and creativity and heart into honoring the work and spreading it, not as isolated individuals but as the IBA Global Village that we are.

"You are the seeds. Keep the seed growing."

With love and gratitude,
Esther and the IBA Team

"The truly important learning is to be able to do the thing you already know in another way. The more ways you have to do the things you know, the freer is your choice. And the freer your choice, the more you are a human being."
